NBC6 in Florida is running a story about independent truckers who staged a protest on the highways of Miami today, asking officials for fuel surcharge break for independent truckers, who are feeling the pinch of high fuel costs and cannot pass the cost on to the local shippers. (pic from NBC6)

Thats an awesome idea. Work together to get a reduced price. So its kind of like a Fuel Union for truckers, well independent truckers.

And then there's the story about the airports experiencing fuel shortages.

Which leads me to the question... in giving advice to people on how they can deal with peak oil and oil consumption... how come I never see anyone discussing how much Americans fly? Supposedly, we're flying MORE than before 9/11.

If one asked people to spend their vacations closer to home in the name of lessening oil consumption, would they be enthusiastic?
